Paying It Forward
​Today, A+R has broadened its range of activities to include social events for scholarship recipients and volunteering partnerships with Ann Arbor organizations. Yet the heart of A+R remains raising funds for our peers in need. Appreciate + Reciprocate is not just the name of a student organization. It's a way of life. Each of us has something to be thankful for and a talent that can benefit others. By coming together, we multiply the power of our individual abilities in order make our Michigan community a better place.
In 2009, a group of scholarship recipients joined together out of gratitude for the incredible gift that they had all received - the opportunity to attend the University of Michigan without having to worry about the burden of paying full tuition. They recognized that their lives would be very different without their scholarships, and as a result, they were compelled to give back.

The students set forth to spread the word of Appreciate + Reciprocate by raising money for the LSA scholarships. In 2014, A+R proudly launched its own scholarship, the LSA Appreciate + Reciprocate Scholarship, based on a $25,000 endowment to be raised in 2 years. The endowment will be used to create need-based scholarships for LSA students dedicated to the spirit of philanthropy.
